What can I do with a huge bowlful I've just been given, apart from roast a few  :lol:

A lot of them seem to use tinned/pureed chestnuts if fresh aren't available, so if you can't face them atm, I'd roast, and puree or freeze them whole.  :)

I pierce them, drop in boiling water for 5 minutes which helps to peel them. I then freeze for use at a special December meal.

10 minutes before roasters are finished i throw loads in amongst the spuds. Lovely. Others are chopped up and mixed with packet sage and onion stuffing to give lovely flavour and crunch. Yummy

I chop some, skinned already, and add them to stuffing to go with roast chicken. Have quite a lot at the moment foraged locally to where I am this week, nice big fat ones. They do last quite a while in their shells though so no immediate rush.

If you are going t roast them, either in the oven or on a skillet, don't forget to poke a hole in them... exploding chestnuts can cause a lot of damage!!
