My new cable warming propagator
« on: October 05, 2017, 21:06 »
My new cable-warming propagator, I was considering buying a propagator for my new (eBay) greenhouse and looked on several forums for ideas and come across a heating cable bench, so at work I noticed we were discarding Euro pallets and pallet sides so I asked if I could have one and this is the result. Thermostat cost me 22.95 and warming cable cost me 18.99 both off (eBay) and sharp sand cost me 6.00 (Homebase) plus my time and effort and other bits in my garage total cost 47.94 so what do you think or better still do they do the job and will they help in seed germination? Additional items. Polystyrene, Thermal wrap insulation, polythene membrane, hammer, nails, screws and a coat of fence paint.

hi it looks ok sand might be a bit deep only 3 inches needed to get a even heat, we used to have a hot bench 8feet wide 110 feet long it had polystyrene base 1inch of sand cable then 2 inch of sand  it kept constant 65 degrees but could be sectioned off to raise the temperature for different seeds.     jezza

Many thanks Jezza, you might be right about the sand, but the cable was about 12 foot so I used 2inch of sand , Cable and another 2inch of sand, the cable on the second layer was long ways, then a final layer of sand, if I don’t get the heat on my chilli plants then I will alter it. Thanks.
