Any Quilters on Here?
« on: September 25, 2017, 12:02 »
Good Morning All
Now if my experience of this forum is anything to go by, there are people on here with a diverse number of skills knowledge, and experience so here goes a request for advice.
Are there any quilters on here?
If so I am looking for some advice. My mother is a very keen quilter and is very experienced. Does anybody have any suggestions for a book for an advanced quilter? We got her a subscription to the quilting magazine last year which was a good move. Birthdays and Christmas creep up very quickly.  ;)
Many thanks any advice appreciated.
Cheers

Hi Aled,

I have done a bit of quilting, but wouldn't call myself an expert. I have a couple of books I got in a second hand shop. Some really good ones out there.  Must say the Quilting mag is good!
Perhaps she would like some supplies? Batting can be expensive, especially if you go for the quality stuff. I use a shop at Cromford Mill in Derbyshire, but there are a few good ones online, too.  New cutting mats and stencils are always welcome, especially if she would like to use different shapes for patchwork quilting.  A new rotary cutter or new blades are also a good bet!
Hope this gives you some ideas...

Thanks Chrysalis that's great advice. We got here a magazine subscription last year. However I like your ideas.
Saw a lovely hand made wooden needle holder which I will get for her. Its a start.
Cheers

Can't recommend any books but I'm fortunate enough to be a member of a local discounted fabric warehouse in Leicester. They do mail order, Google The Fabric Guild, they do books too. If I'm going in the next month or so I'll let you know, I can look through the books they have & let you know
Where about are you based?

Does she hand sew or just by machine?  If she likes to sew by hand, there is a great set called Millefiori Quilts by Willyne Hammerstein.  Her third book just came out recently. If you google La Pasacaglia, you get images from all over the world.
