Please help
« on: August 11, 2017, 21:09 »
Hi I'm wondering if anyone can help me. I have a ryobi expandit and am having trouble with it spluttering and dropping revs.  It was working fine until recently and now it's a nightmare to start and when I finally do get it started it splutters and drops revs to the extent where it will not cut.

I have noticed that it is smoking a lot more so don't know of that is a sign of anything.

I have changed the fuel and replaced the plug to no avail.

Can anyone tell me what it might be.  Thanks in advance

Hi Andrew. The smoke you're seeing is unburnt oil. It could be the air filter is clogged or maybe the spark plug cap is dodgy. I take it the oil is pre-mixed with the fuel, have you mistakenly added too much oil (it's easily done). Also the quality of oil can make a huge difference, a safe bet would be to try a good quality synthetic oil.
If the air filter looks ok and plug cap isn't damaged I'd mix fresh fuel using synthetic oil and give that a go. Good luck with it.
