chest infection-asked if i had birds

was sent to AandE with really high blood pressure. diagnosed anong other things with a chest infection. the consultant asked if i had birds. well we had 4 chickens down to 2 now. and a rosella parakeet in the house. read a few horrir storues on the internet. and wirried now the danage may be permanent. anybody else diagnosed or been in sane situation any advice i dont want to get rid of the pets

I don't have any experience of this, but I'm really sorry to hear you are unwell galeey  :(

Hope you feel better soon.  It's not nice to think you might have to get rid of your birds.  I hope it doesn't come to that.

Think that parrots are a potential problem in the home, rather than the hens?

Depends if you have a walk in hen coop ! :)

Psittacosis is no joke though, a couple of uncles had pigeon lofts and the inside of them was at times a very dusty environment.

There were members of the pigeon club under serious doctors orders not to enter their lofts without breathing masks .

I searched on this here  https://www.gov.uk/guidance/psittacosis.

According to that information, it's quite likely a few of us will have psittacosis without knowing we've had it. May be Galeey's doctor tested for the antibodies?
