Title: First eggs of the year
Post by: New shoot on January 23, 2017, 16:41
Mine had a late moult, then their usual winter rest period, but I've just been out to offer them a handful of corn to keep them snug in bed tonight and there were not 1 but 2 eggs  :D  :D  :D

Lovely when it happens, isn't it?  One of mine has been back in lay for about a week or so, but the other clearly thinks it is beneath her at the moment!  The youngsters laid throughout so we have not had to buy eggs this season, yippee!

I'm still waiting, but I had to wait until the end of Feb last year!

The don't expect the youngsters (August hatch) to start laying until March.

Then they will all go broody (but that's pekins for you).

H :)

I've had an egg most days since I posted, but there were 2 again today  :)  Beyonce was sitting in a nest box with a superior look on her face, but as she is 6 this year, I think she may be having me on

She wants you to think she is still useful, just in case you have other ideas!

Bluey likes to sit in the nest box and her last egg was 2 years ago. Think I might need to move the nesting site to the coffee table for Mavis....they are still in the polytunnel.
Just been out...she can get there  :D

3 eggs today   I withdraw my comments about layabout hens

Miss B is still trying to claim the credit, but her eggs are usually a shade darker and a bit larger, so I think the honours go to Patsy, Eddie and Millie  :D
