Hi I really cannot believe my luck today, one eating an elastic band ( see earlier post) and I discover my girl with the broken leg (even earlier post) has got a small hole inbetween her toes in the fleshy webbed part of her foot.

Its a clean hole like an ear piercing hole, cant say I recall seeing it before apart from her usual limp I have not noticed anything abnormal, no swelling, no discharge, all seems ok
any thoughts ??

Just to update, I have spoken to the rearer that I had her from and it may be a toe punch to mark a new breed as she is a fenton rose it may be the breeder has done this to distinguish her from others

Toe punching is quite commonly done to identifiy individual chicks, and is normally done at 1 day old.

Casey thank you !!! its fantastic that you learn something everyday and folks are able to help you out on here.

Apparently its a new breed of hybrid called a fenton rose that is bred for its blue egg production for supermarkets like waitrose. The cockerel is a cream legbar and I do not know what the hen is but the outcome is the fenton rose hybrid.

A really compact chicken with small dainty feet so ideal for garden kept chickens with a  really curious and friendly nature, I am really impressed with her personality, and would consider having more in the future.

Thanks again for the toe clear up, might put her a rhinestone in it  lol
