Hi all i have recently started keeping hens i have four 1 sussex star 1 Black star  1 Ranger 1 Blubell The bluebell is the only one laying at the moment i suspect from looking at the size the bluebell is the older i was told that they were at about twenty weeks old when i had them and i have had them now for about four / five weeks i think from reading the books they should start laying in the next few weeks i hope has anybody got any ideas I will be making them a larger new hen house soon when the weather gets a bit dryer

Hi and welcome, you might have to wait until spring now before you get eggs off the others. I bought 3 new hens about 4 weeks ago all supposedly about 8 months old but only one of them is laying. loads of us are complaining about the lack of eggs at the minute. I'm getting 1 a day from 10 hens!

As they are hybrids, usually between 18 and 26 weeks.  Although I did have a few Babcock browns that started to lay at 16 weeks, and some Amberlinks that didn't start until they were 28 weeks.

But now its getting colder you may find they don't start until February.

They'll lay when they are ready.  There aren't many that don't lay, although I've had a few!

Hi i bought two more about a month ago they where 19 weeks and one has been laying for the last two weeks the other one has layed her first egg today  so hopefully yours wont be long.
