Kris

Just checked the destructions on my garlic and it states

Mid Oct to early Dec for Autumn planting

March to April for spring planting

Mine are Solent white so you should be OK.

I got two bulbs, I've planted 1 in Dec, and the second I will be planting in the next week or two, just finished off my veg patch in the garden.

Mine always does better if I plant in the Autumn - but what with rain, hail and mud, it didn't get done, so I have only put mine in this week.  Last time this happened I got rather small bulbs, composed of rather small cloves - but better than nothing! :D
Would-be organic but still learning!

It'll be fine Kris!  I planted some last April, and they came up luvverly.  Mine are going in tomorrow.  Planted some in December too (by the light of the silvery moon - contentious subject!)

Mine went in two weeks ago, meant to do it earlier but forgot, I cant see why they're going to suffer for it.
We use chemicals in this garden, just as god intended

Last year I put mine in in March and they did not grow at all!!!!

This year I have very healthy 6 inch shoots from a december planting.

However in 2007 I put them in in March and they did grow, not huge but we had enough to last us for about 6 months.

So i guess it depends on the weather.

I plant one lot in autumn (the frost helps them develop good big cloves) these I leave until the leaves die back and I hang them for use through the year.
I plant another lot around this time of year that I pick and use as "Green Garlic" from late May. These are small cloves with a milder taste than the autumn sown ones so are great for salads etc

  Aragric

Can you plant cloves from bulbs you buy in the grocers?

the great guru John has only just planted his ...  so I'm sure you will be okay! ::)

But not planting ones from the  grocers - they are bred for warmer climes than the chilly old UK. :(
