Botrytis certainly has a very similar look to blight and just as devastating. One year's botrytis problems ensure I now  always leave my greenhouse door open with a protective animal/bird net from mid May onwards to keep any chance of botrytis at bay, but this of course allows blight spores to blow in during the season. But as most of us know, it's the water on the leaves that can kick off the blight, so the real protection are the dry leaves.  The open door also stops most leaf condensation and night time roof condensation that would otherwise drip onto the tomatoes. I haven't had a problem for 5 years now in the greenhouse, fingers crossed, even though close neighbours' greenhouses have succumbed due to bad watering habits. It really is essential to keep water away from the leaves.
This method doesn't help the greenhouse cucumbers which probably prefer a slightly more humid condition, but I just about get away with it.

You might like to check for blight before you try growing tomatoes at the allotment. I've given up trying to grow anything except the "blight resistant" varieties (Mountain Magic) because blight kills off everything before they ripen.

Like head gardener I gave up growing tomatoes on the plot due to blight and have just grown them in the garden in pots which means I get a harvest! I decided to try blight resistant variety on the plot next year even before this thread appeared! Admittedly I haven't tried any bush types but my stalwarts for outdoors are Galina, Stupice and another vote for Sungold all of which are early varieties.

I find the easiest way to stake is to use 3 x 8ft bamboo canes tied in a pyramid to give a strong structure. The plants can be tied to them and they grow at a slight angle. It works in my large flower bucket sized pots.

I grow Mountain Magic on our windy plot. Although cordon they make strong plants and outside are pinched out to keep them at 3-4 feet tall. The seed is fairly expensive so I take side shoot cuttings early in the season and double the number of plants.

Ildi is a cordon but does not grow tall and is easy to grow as a semi-bush tomato outside.  Just surround with canes as above and let it grown a few main stems.  The fruit are tiny little yellow tomatoes, but you get loads.

The only one I have tried is this one MrsPea.  It has tiny fruit, but they grow like bunches of grapes and are very tasty.
