Cutting/moving raspberry suckers
« on: April 01, 2013, 19:12 »
Was on the plot this afternoon and noticed that my Tulameen are starting to produce shoots.

I want to move one of these suckers to a gap in the line where one of the plants failed to survive and there's one sucker that's a fair distance from the parent plant.

The question is, when to do this? Do it now while the sucker is still small or wait 'til it's bigger?

When I do it I'll try to move a chunk of soil and roots with it.

You can do it now - cut through the root with your spade, make sure you leave the new bit with as much root as you can  ;)

Put plenty of new compost around the roots. They don't get on well when they're planted where old rasberries have been
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.
