I will start this of and hopefully you will all join in and we can then all use it as a reference point for trips out when we have had enough of the veggies, or we have been told "there is more to life than your allotment"
TYNEHAM
The village of Tyneham is situated on the East Dorset coast in-between Lulworth and Kimmerage. It has a sad history but well worth the effort of a visit. It was one of the few places in this country where its inhabitants could trace their family tree back hundreds of years and not leave the village but in the second world war all this came to an end. The Government threw them out of their homes to use the area as a training ground for the invasion of Europe, telling them they could return at the end of hostilities, they have never been back.
After decades of pressure the village has been partially restored and is opened up to the public on certain times of the year.
Take a picnic and time it so there is a guided tour (summer only)
Parking is by honesty box £2 a day
Plus there is a lovely walk to a long sandy bay from the village (Worbarrow Bay)
"You must cut down the mightiest Oak of the forest, with a ......... Herring!"
(Holy Grail)

That's a good idea, when I'm allowed out to play next time, I'll write you a review. We went to Northumberland on our hols in September and did a lot of walking, we loved Holy Island and Alnwick Gardens.

Great idea as many of us love traveling.

I like to have city breaks to places like Birmingham and Manchester and Liverpool.

I'm just thinking about this as I type.

I think rather than keep adding to this thread, as you won't eventually see the wood for the trees, if I make a "Sticky", you can make a separate posting for your suggested palace and then link to it from the sticky.

The sticky will then just be a simple to read list of suggested places.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

How's it looking

I've re-titled this thread to reflect the place you've suggested, (been there - it's quite spooky).

I can't explain why some of the text is large though - thinking about that!

But don't forget it costs me at least £100 to leave the Island to go and visit these places.

Visited Tyneham this summer - what a fascinating tale, but felt so aggrieved for the ex residents - brought a tear to my eye.

As for places to visit, joined the National Trust a couple of years back and have been to many fantastic places across the whole of Britain on my many camping trips.
Total beginner - please bear with me if I ask daft questions!!

My wife and I went to Tyneham last September.
I had to laugh (wierd humour), In the pamphlet it says " The deserted village of Tyneham"
Wasn't when we went, it was heaving with people!!
