I've got these on order, http://www.leadthegoodlife.com/catalog/product/view/id/26620/s/potato-super-season-of-spuds-collection-60-pre-order-w-c-2nd-feb-2015/category/1117/, apparently to be delivered w/c 2nd Feb.

Not tried any of these varieties but if rule of thumb is right re 10 tubers/kg, even with £4.99 postage thought was worth a try for the selection at average of around £1.60/kg

Will hopefully also be getting some Piccasso (trusted favourite  :tongue2:) from our allotment shop when it opens at the end of this month at the much lower price of usually around £3/5kg  :D

I have just been into town and while I was there I had a look at the Wilko spud's. I have to say they do look in very good condition and they have plenty of choice. They have netted bag's, 2.5kg each for £2.50. Then they do, fill a small paper bag for £2.50 or a large bag for I think £3.50 (not sure on that).
I will get some at the weekend.

I am going to GC for mine on Monday, as there are only two of us I usually buy six of two or three varieties and grow them in tubs
I have cut one or two in half before planting and they grew well, I will put them in egg boxes on the north facing window cill in spare bedroom with the radiator turned of until I am ready to plant and I don't worry about them looking a bit wizened when the last ones go in they still grow

So then a couple of questions on these seed potatoes ( I think I have grown almost everything except potatoes over the years )
1.If I have first early seed potatoes  I can chit some now to go in the polytunnel at the end of Febuary ?
2. Do I just store the remainder of the first earlies in the dark and cool until im ready for chitting them to go outside ?
3. And I guess with the maincrop spuds keep dark and cool until ready to go outside ?
4. I plan to pop a few earlies in in August for a Christmas crop , do I keep back seed pots now and keep dark and cool till august or do I use some of my early crop in  april/may?

All of my potatoes are chitting, if kept cool and light they will chit slowly for months, and all get planted out at the same time once the weather warms up a bit (except for a few which get planted early in pots in the greenhouse)

You can keep a few earlies in the fridge to stop them sprouting until later in the year, or save some of your early crop. If the latter

Regarding using your own seed potatoes you must make sure that your potatoes are harvested and left for 60 days before re-planting to kick start the growth cycle.

Our local garden centre have just got their potatoes in, so we bought some Swift and Charlotte.

Interesting to see that a few have good shoots already, but others haven't started at all! They're more expensive than Wilkos etc, but the garden centre guys and gals are great to chat with, so we get the best of both worlds, as we're in there most weeks from now on!

I picked up Kestral and Charlottes from the nursery during the week - you know what one of the weekend jobs is!  ::)

I got an email saying mine were being dispatched... When it was -8C here overnight  they have arrived and look ok - how would I know if they have been frosted and would this ruin them if they have?
