dying chicken
« on: May 07, 2011, 18:07 »
i posted a couple of days ago about my sick chicken Rocky the rhode island red,I have given her 2 antibiotic injections and she has one to be given on monday.
She seemed to perk up after the first but has gone down again.

Sadly I don't think she will make it,she is hardly moving now and no food or water taken,I want to give her a chance and can't bring myself to kill her,she seems peaceful.
Very upsetting as she is a super bird. :(

Ahh Kittyb, it's awful when you have to watch one of your girls :( You've done all you can, you gave her every chance, sadly, there's just nothing more you can do. Chickens quite often dont show that they're ill until it's too late to do anything about it.
Here's hoping it's all over quickly. Just make her as comfortable as possible and keep your fingers crossed for a miraculous recovery xxx
Many pets, a bloke and 2 kids....help!!!

Thanks Carla,I just checked her and her head has gone down and her eyes are closed so I think it will soon.
I feel guilty letting her go naturally and my OH thinks I should kill her but I can't.

I couldnt when my girlie was on her way out...as awful as it was to watch her fade away, I just couldnt bring myself to do it. My OH has said that the next time one of them is clearly not going to make it, he'll do it, but there's no way I could :( :( She wont be in any pain, she'll just be in a dream like phase now, so she wont be suffering xx

How awful for you, dont worry if you cant bring yourself to hasten her death, there is nothing in what you say to suggest that she is suffering, she may well just go in her sleep.  Hope she goes peacefully soon

You will be in my thoughts Kittyb. You did everything you could for your girl, Im sure that she had a lovely life with you. Try and think of that, and rest assured that she will be in excellent company in Chookie Heaven, with all our little ones that have passed.
A big hug from France is on its way to you.

I am so very sorry that you are having to go through this.  You have done all you could possibly do for her and she will pass on peacefully.  You know you gave her a lovely life.   :(
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!
