I keep hearing stories of people phoning up various councils and them delivering a few tons of compost, something i had never thought about doing with wakefield council as they are shockingly bad at most things

 But a walk in the park with my granddad and we saw a huge mountain of compost, presumably from leaf mould and it looked good stuff, he said its been there like that for other 5 years, would it be worth asking to have some do you think?

check out the council's website and see if they promote recycling/composting givaways. The recycling office or the parks and recreation office may be able to advise as well.

We get black compost from the central recycling and manure from the Queen's horses, all free.

I don't now much about Wakefield but I do know they have been quite big on greenspace and tree management so give it a go...

Wakefield are one of the best in the country for recycling

I would certainly give it a try. I sourced some for my redesigned back garden last year.Ordered 2 ton & got approx 4 ton (so the van driver said).It cost me £60 for the diesel.But it was tipped on to the drive so it was worth not having to load it into a trailer & then dig it back out.
