Hi I've just grown some quick maturing for the first time the heads are just enough for one. The first head has formed but they are alot more open than bought ones. I'm going to eat it for diner tomorrow anyway, just curious to know why?

I imagine it's just a different variety to the shop ones. A lot of mine were lost to root fly but those remaining have heads about tennis ball size so I'm just hoping they make it through the next few weeks.

make sure you cut it before the flowers start to open!

Yea, mine did this last year and are looking the same this year.  Doesnt matter, just cut them small before the flowers open.  I think it just means they are prone to bolting - Ive been wateering every night and no difference this year.

Still well worth it - cant believe how quickly they mature.  Remember to cut a lot of the stalk and surrounding leaves and eat the lot!  And leave for the side shoots which will just keep on coming...
