Poorly chicken please help!
« on: April 30, 2010, 16:06 »
I have three rescued chooks and noticed one of them wasn't quite right a couple of days ago.  Not very interested in food, a bit slower than usual, feathers all fluffed up and a lot of whitish diaorrhea.  She is also walking a bit funny, she looks as though she's got big fluffy trousers on and is walking with her legs quite wide apart.  The other two are in their usual good health.

I've tried leaving it a couple of days to see if she picks up but there's no change.  Any ideas or suggestions welcome, she is much loved!

Oh dear, sounds like she's very uncomfortable

Hopefully someone will be along shortly to help you with your question.

Is she walking that way because her abdomen is swollen or does it feel quite normal? If you're not sure then check her against the other two. You say she's not interested in food but is she drinking ok? She'll need to keep her fluid intake up. Is she passing any solid matter at all or is it just liquid?

if she is egg bound get her in a warm bath for 30 mins to an hour to see if that will relax her muscles so she can pass the egg.
Please let us know how she is.
Staffies are softer than you think.
