Hi guys roughly how much room does a cucumber plant take up, height and width like??

I get loads of timber from work and have some clear polycarb sheeting and want to build something just to house 2 plants down the side of my house.  I don't have room for a greenhouse and am trying to keep the salad stuff at home rather than use the plot for ease of picking for my kids,

Not understanding (and not wanting to understand) cms & mms,  your cucumber should grow about 6 - 7 feet high and huge widthwise if kept unchecked.  But if you cut the side shoots off two leaves after a fruit it can be kept to about 2 foot by 2 foot.   :happy:  Cheers,    Tony.

Hi Stratts, last year I grew a cucumber for the first time in my unheated greenhouse.  It was a mini cuc called Diva which you cut when it gets to about 4" long.  It grew in a bucket to the full height of the greenhouse which is 6" but I restricted it width wise to just two side shoots cut off after the first three flowers and so it only grew to about 2" wide.

you can grow outdoor cucumber varieties if you are struggling to get a "greenhouse" set up - La Diva, Marketmore, Crystal Apple are just some of many varieties that do well outside  

Edit:  outdoor varieties don't grow as big as greenhouse ones

Thanks guys just the job I can build something 4ft wide x 2ft deep x 7ft high surrounded with clear polycarb and fix it to the house wall.  Find a tub same sort of size to go in the bottom and trail it up the wall, snipping as it goes.

Now to get building!! As if I don't have enough to do already, lol!!!

Some are more rampant than others I've found to my cost in my little greenhouse    The Cucino is quite a compact grower. The Passandra is a bit more exuberant but I think it fruited better (small lunchbox size cues)
