How long do raspberry plants last
« on: October 20, 2016, 21:56 »
H i I have some Autumn fruiting raspberries that are 8/9 years old,the last 2 years they have not done as well as previous years. Is it time to replace or are they needing something to give them a boost. Cheers.

Have you been feeding them? they like to be mulched with manure or allotment compost

I think Sequestered iron feeds contain minerals/trace elements but not much in the way of general fertiliser. I've not seen one with an NPK ratio shown
The RHS says
Quote
add a 7.5cm (3in) thick mulch of bulky organic matter. Avoid mushroom compost or overly rich farmyard manure, which can burn the new shoots.

In early March apply slow-release general fertiliser, fish, blood and bone for example, at 34g per sq m (1oz per sq yd), then mulch with well-rotted organic matter. If the growth is weak, apply sulphate of ammonia at 34g per sq m (1oz per sq yd) or dried poultry manure pellets at 100g per sq m (3oz per sq yd).
