Leaves Turning Black
« on: August 30, 2010, 19:02 »

A few weeks ago i had some seedlings, various types mostly things like Pansys and Viola's and suddenly what appeared to be healthy plants died thier leaves turned black/brown and they just keeled over.

At the time i was having some work done on the garden and the lawn guy had smothered my lawn in Glyphosate so i figured he'd just been abit heavy handed or some dift had caught the plants.

Several weeks later i've had some new plants arrive from T&M bought to replace the ones i lost and these plants having been taken out of thier pug pots and planted into new ones are doing the exact same thing.

They aren't ready for thier perminant postions yet, so they are in small pots, kept well watered and get sunshine for about 8 hours a day.

Where am i going wrong??

Are you sure it was glyphosate which he used?  He couldn't have used a more persistent chemical in the soil?

Have you checked the soil for any bugs, weevils, etc which might be chomping the roots?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

KT - Are the leave turing black and dry or black and mushy?

Sounds rather odd.

ANy chance of a photo or two to give a better idea of what is happening?

It may well be = killed off by a chemical or you have some sort of fungal growth in the soil.

I think I'd plant else where for a while and give that particular patch a miss.  :(
