Hi,
I have been away for the last few months and will return to the UK in the next few days.  Is it too late to start growing any veg?

Plenty of time left for lots of things. Beans, potatoes, beetroot, salad, carrots, etc

Yes loads of stuff you can still sow as Azubah says.  Have a look at this from the main site.

There are still lots of tomatoes and other veg plants in the garden centres as well, so you can play catch up

Early PSB, first early potatoes. After midsummer, oriental brassicas, perpetual spinach, winter spinach. In August, Spring cabbage.

All of the temperature sensitive crops which don't require a long growing season can be started now, e.g. French/runner beans, tomatoes, courgettes.

For anything that is geuninely too late to sow, you could consider buying plug plants.
