poor, very poor

Well like everyone else the weather here in the tropics of North West Engerland has been very dry.
I have just dug a main crop spud plant as it had died off and fears became reality...

I had a small crop of earlies and they are very scabby. I read that dry conditions make this worse.

Just three meals from four bags of Pentland Javelin in the greenhouse - and latterly outside!

Just not worth the bother and expense! Might just as well have gone to Twongos!

Or even better, buy a tin...

Charlotte are great, this is Desiree although some plants look better.
I planted mid April as I always have but notice the pomatoe's (seed pods) appearing by mid June, never in my life seen them that early ???

The foliage on my Jazzy has all wilted so I thought it was time to lift them. There were some that were an OK size but most as you say are tiny. There is still some green in the foliage so I might try leaving them a bit longer but I suspect it will be in vain.

Lady Christl and Vivaldi were OK crops and my Setanta looks radiant with health.

I've dug up about 5 Charlottes which have produced lots of tasty pots, but have seen a few fruits on them as well. The other pots still look healthy so will see how they go.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Dug up the last three Charlotte plants today and got 2.3kg of nice spuds. Not the best yield but considering the weather not bad. I have two rows of Colleen which have been in for 14-15 weeks and are ready to lift but I'm hoping the promised rain will come tomorrow and they'll put on a bit more bulk.

We dug up some charlottes yesterday not a bad size of spud, just not many of them 13lbs off 6 plants.
The farmer down the road grows potatoes in a big way he has gone from 15 tonnes per acre last year down to 4 tonnes per acre,he is well fed up.
I still have some maris piper and setanta in the ground they are looking healthy, but they have a had lots of water hoping for a better crop of those.

Oh dear. I'd better focus more on my maincrops. My earlies were decent, even though it hasn't rained properly in my area since April, and my mains aren't yet showing any signs of dying off, but I have watered them every 1-2 weeks.

I believe in the south we have now surpassed 1976 for warmth and lack of rain, with no rain forecast next week for Horsham. It is only the wet autumn and winter that has delayed any hosepipe ban so far, whereas the 1976 summer followed a prior dry summer and dry winter.

Low yields here too, even though it seems I have done nothing but watering.  Bags of Nicola and Pentland Javelin didn't produce many, likewise a couple of Red Duke of Yorks growing in the ground.  Jazzy grown in the ground is doing marginally better.
All taste lovely though.

I have fruits on my Jazzy. What does it signify?

Edited to fix quote.

Nothing, other than that the flowers were pollinated.
It makes no difference to tuber set or size. They are poisonous so if you have little ones that might be tempted to eat them, they are best removed.

Being positive, we've now had some rain in the North West.

Although I've now had two blight warnings  :( at least I'll find out if the JBA Blightguard is a gimmick or actually useful.
