What's eating my peas?
« on: May 05, 2006, 20:28 »
1st April I planted half a double row of peas, and followed up 3 weeks later when the first had appeared.

The first peas are now quite strong, but something has begun to seriously damage top leaves so that they are probably only 2" tall now. The leaves look like something is taking a half round bite out of them.

I have them surrounded by pea sticks, and slug pellets.

Any ideas? Perhaps pigeons could be pushing into the sticks at ground level.

Pea weevil could be the culprit. They've eaten loads of mine. You can spray with derris, or plant some more. That's what I'm going to do, hoping that the warmer weather will make them grow so fast  the weevils can't do so much damage.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.
