Hi,

This is my first planting season on my allotment and my gourds are dropping dead a couple of days after I put them in the ground. Am I putting them in too early? They have been started at home on the kitchen window, which isn't very warm (15c), and then planted out over last weekend on the plot, do they need to be acclimatised? We have had no frosts here in a long while but the wind has battered everything in the last few days.

when you say you have had no frosts... what do you base this on?

I'm in Durham, so kind of half way up the country and we still get night-time frosts up until about now although the frost has thawed by daybreak.

do you have a maximum / minimum thermometer that you can look at to know whether the temp dropped under, say, 4 degrees c to be sure?
