New girl! New Chickens!
« on: February 18, 2010, 17:14 »
Hello to you All. At the moment I am having afew sleepless nights worrying about my girls to be. I have planned there arrival now for over a year and all is ready and waiting [ much advice I have read on here]
I have a beautiful handmade coop and run with an extra extention for them to busy themselves in whist Im on shift [part-time].  The coop and run is for 6-8 chickens!
7 was my magic number. After measuring the recommended 23cm perching space. I feel its
got to be 6 now to be safe for them. But, I cant stop fretting over the run size. Is this ok for hybrids ?
Its overall covered run is 11ft-9in long x 5ft high x 3ft wide, 2 nest boxes, 2 perches.
and the attatched coop 3ft wide x 3ft 6in deep on legs with covered dust bath area underneath. With ramp and VSB pop hole, for our peace of mind.
They will be free range every day from mid/ early afternoon in large old garden.
Had a lot to explain, like a nervous mum to be.
HELP!!!!!

Bella - put your neighbourhood in your profile.  It is worth figuring it out.  Then the local chook peeps will flock round you and take you under wing.  You'll see!

Yes this does look the same size as ours. Thanx for the reply. We will go for 6. But shall
speak to the supplier before collection next week. Will keep you posted. Good luck with
the build. When do you hope to get complete?
