Hi all

when would you expect Calabrese to start forming the large floret if I planted in April? They look really healthy with large leaves, but I can't see any sign of a floret yet - in fact it looks like its sprouting more leaves. Should I be worried?

Let well alone and they will head up soon for you

It takes at least 4 months to get florets! If the plant looks big and healthy, don't worry, it'll get there and you'll have a great harvest.

Mine formed small heads about 1 1/2 inches across, then turned into yellow flowers in less then 2 days.

Revenge was sweet, they are now chopped into bits on the compost heap.

Suggest you just wait, and watch.

I had florets in 2.5 months from planting - about half a month earlier than last year, probably the good spring.  Anyway, they were pretty small, but side shoots still coming on.  There are a couple of plants that still havent sprouted so Im hoping for good things there.  So I reckon patience is the word, and hopefully your in for some big veg.  Gotta catch em before they flower though!
