separating broodys
« on: February 13, 2010, 17:46 »
Last year all 3 of my bantams went broody within days of each other. This year we said we would put some eggs under to hatch in the spring if one of them goes broody again. I know you have to keep a broody & her chicks separate from the other hens, but if they all go broody together again would we be able to put a couple of eggs under each girl and keep them together, or would we still need to separate them?

Keep broodies separate from each other. If together what may happen is they decide to all sit on one nest and leave the other eggs cold :)

Thanks foxy, I never thought of that side of it. I was thinking more about the hens attacking chicks that they hadn't hatched, or would they mother any chicks that they came across if they all hatched some at the same time?
