Literally that - is it ok to plant Brassicas twice in the same bed in the same year?

If I sow early on and harvest small and still have later brassicas to plant in, can I use the same soil twice in the same year or is that dangerous with regards to clubroot?

I'd more worry about other pests/disease and lack of nutrient than club root, with club root if you have it you have it regardless.
It comes in on infected plants or soil that's why it pays to grow your own from seed  or buy young plants from one of the big suppliers who certify club root free.

He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

I'm in total agreement with Richy.

If you've not got club root, you can only import it. The ability to sustain the crop is the issue.

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I agree too.

Having said that, I do sometimes use the same piece of land for some more caulis or broccoli  but I do plant at the recommended in row and between row distances and shift the planting positions to as far away from original planting positions as possible.  I feed well too!

Thank you. I think then, instead of trying to crop twice, I will plant things like turnips and swedes closer as I like to harvest smaller and that will free up more space for the bigger leafy brassicas like cabbage and kale.

I dissagree ... (sorry guys)

I rotate my beds every year, which means I'll have successional sowings of brassicas in that bed all year. Such as early raddishes and turnips, followed by cabbages which I've brought on in the cold frame and then I'll plant up with kale and sprouiting broccoli to overwinter.

Clubroot is an issue ... but as people have said it would be anyway, which is why I grow things in pots and plant out with a decent rootball. As long as you add a bit of compost and BF&B between crops you should be good.

Spacing crops closer will just ruin your harvest.

All of the above is just my opinion =]

That's a little similar to the way I use my brassica patch.

Me too. I rotate on an annual basis not crop by crop.

Thanks Gary. When I say plant crops closer together, I was referring to turnips and swedes as they have always grown oversize in past years anyway.

I think my plan will be to plant those closer together and pull earlier and give more room over to the leafy cabbages, kale etc.

Thanks for your replies everyone.
