Primeroses in the front garden border
« on: February 24, 2017, 12:48 »
I have planted some in today. However I like to put in summer flowering plants too at the end of spring. Do I need to move the Primeroses then?

Also I would like to plant them in my shady wild flower patch. Over which I would be scattering some wildflower seeds for summer and then few autumn flowering plants.. Does it work.?

If they are bedding plant primroses (these come with lots of different coloured flowers and the flowers are quite big), they are short lived perennials, but will survive a move to another border.  If you move them, it will give you more room for your summer flowers.

Native primroses have smaller flowers and are all pale yellow.  If you spot these, it would be worth putting some straight into your shady border as they seed around and last for years  :)

All primroses are quite small, low growing plants, so need to be near the front so they are not overpowered by taller plants.

If you plant summer-flowering plants between them then, as long as they are "airy" enough for the primroses to get some light, it should be ok. Wild primroses can also be found in flower meadows and again should be ok, although they may need feeding if their leaves look a bit pale.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
