I've got 20 looking orangish - when should I pick and eat then please ?

according to info I found you should harvest them when "they are heavy for their size and sounds hollow when tapped". 

Also, do note that the skin is NOT edible.  I also read that it's easiest to soften the shell if you back it whole .  Put it in a 300 deg oven  (I found this instruction on a US site) for 15-20 mins and then let it cool.  Cut in half and peel the shell with a sharp knife.  If you want to use the shell as a bowl or as a display item then bake the shell at 250 deg for 20-20 mins and scoop out the flesh with a spoon.

re earlier msg.  I meant bake the shell for 20-25 mins - not 20-20 mins!!

I was given a large turban squash a while back and wondered why i got the big one and she kept the medium sized ones (the size you could bake whole) that is until it took me 10 mins to bash a meat cleaver through it with a hammer.
Worth it though , good eating  :)

I've grown turbans this year as well and harvested about a dozen.

Harvest when they've gone from the yellow/green tinge on the main body to the orange/red colour and sound hollowish.
Top tip for camping....don't go.
