Still getting some thin shelled eggs!
« on: July 27, 2008, 19:45 »
Clarissa is now laying wonderful eggs, mostly double yolkers!  Jennifer seems to lay normally for a couple of days in the nest box, then we find several thin shelled ones around.  The two of them wander round the garden quite a bit now and she will suddenly squat and there is another!!  I give them oyster shell in their feed and they have plenty of grit.  Not sure what to do about it.  Is it because they haven't been laying for long?  Strange that one lays normally and the other doesn't.  Would be grateful for advice please

You may offer them oyster shell but as the vet told me they may not eat it!!  One might the other may not.  Try Limestone flour mixed in with there feed.

try a drop of cod liver oil or similar on a piece of bread each one a week, it helps with vitamin levels required for calcium absorption.
I use 1 of those capsules between 4 hens they only need a little

As everyone above said she may need extra calcium.  Limestone flour is easy to give,  just add to their feed, about a desertspoon full to a kilo of pellets.
